radio hivemind
Last.fm has been rocking my boat lately. The last few times I’ve tuned in it’s played me music I’ve never heard before but imediately fell in love with. I’d heard some of the arists before but not the songs last.fm decided to play for me. Brian Eno’s The Lost Day, Plastikman’s Smak, Portishead’s Airbus Reconstruction and B. Fleischmann, who I’ve never even heard of before.
And of course, the website is so amazing too! These are some of my favourite albums, according to last.fm:
You can click on each album when you’re on the site and that takes you to the tracklisting for the album. From the you can find similar artists. You also get to see the top fans for that album. If you select one of the fans you can see who else they listen too which is another way to find similar artists.
You get to rate tracks as you listen to themso that last.fm gets to know what you like. It also takes what you like and compares to to what other people, who like what you like, listen to and plays you music based on that. So the more time you spend listening the better it gets at playing you new, interesting music, that you’ve never heard before but are bound to like. Like it’s been doing for me!
Freaky huh? Tuning into a good station is like listening to on old friends record collection. One that you haven’t seen for years and he’s found a whole lot of music since. It’s all new yet is sounds so familiar. They should call it Radio Hivemind.
